Miranda Skye Vavrosky - Artist Statement
Art, to me, is a medium of salvation, a lifeline that emerged during a dark period of suffering. It became my sanctuary, a refuge from the storms within that my health waged against me. My work reflects this transformative journey, a dance with the emotions that helped me cope.
Inspired by visionaries like Pollock, Krasner, and others, I've forged a unique style that merges action painting with my intuition and trance-like states of mind. My canvases explode with vivid colors, dynamic shapes, and traces of life's profound stories. Often sealing the artwork with my own tears before allowing it to be “finished”.
My path was unconventional. Originally, I embarked on a medical career path in college, but health hurdles derailed my course. At one point,I was going to get back on the medical path because I was afraid that art might not be financially sustainable. But my art professor enlightened me, saying, "Skill can always be taught, but what you possess within yourself comes out on the canvas, and that can't be taught. Your art makes people feel like they aren't alone" This wisdom altered my perspective of what the purpose of my life even was.
During the pandemic, I embraced my true calling, harnessing acrylics, inks, and resin to craft a personal narrative and express everything that sat inside my subconscious. My art reflects themes of emotional alchemy, growth, and the human condition.
My techniques are distinctive: I paint upside down, dance while I create, and surrender to the rhythm of intuition. My process is a form of meditation, where I transmute my energy into every stroke. Reminding myself to play and be a tool for the artwork to create itself.
Art is more than a vocation; it's my lifeline, a tool that saved my life when darkness loomed large. Now, my mission is to extend this lifeline to children who are battling their health issues. I founded Vavrosky Art LLC, offering a range of creative services, from art shows, products, original art, commissions, corporate art, and wedding art. I'm equally driven to establish "Artsy Aunty," a nonprofit, to help children battling their own struggles, express their emotions through abstract art, to help them cope.
My artistic path is grounded in the belief that art is a mirror reflecting our inner worlds. It is a dance, a connection to the subconscious, and a profound dialogue with the self and the collective. Picasso once said, "It takes a lifetime to learn to paint like a child." With each piece, I strive to unveil that childlike wonder in the heart of the observer.
